Creative Director

Location: We're located in San Francisco, but we're looking for the right person who can be anywhere (ideally within 3 time zones of SF)

Do you wonder what the children's story looks like in the world of iPhones, Kindles, iPads and the next generation iWhatevers?  So do we.  Help us reinvent children's stories for the 21st Century.

 

Story Something is looking for a Creative Director to help us shape our interactive story library.  We are looking for someone who "gets" children's stories and children's games.  You would be responsible for creating and sourcing our interactive story concepts and scripts, and then working with writers, animators, cartoonists, designers and our product and technology teams to deliver a great experience for children and their parents. 

We are an early-stage start-up, so this is a roll-up the sleeves and dig in position.

Responsibilities:

  • - Own the overall creative strategy, portfolio, road map, sourcing and production of interactive stories for Story Something, including story management, project budget, schedule, resources, design and requirements.
  • - Create or source ideas and draft proposals consisting of concepts, scripts and storyboards for new interactive stories.
  • - Identify and manage external writers, illustrators, animators, and designers to timely and successful project completion.
  • - Manage all facets of release process including marketing and positioning materials.
  • - Understand and contribute to overall company goals.
  • - Analysis of metrics and market research to determine what stories are connecting with the audience
  • - Maintain fluency in Facebook policies and roadmap
  • - Stay current on overall interactive storytelling and social game best practices

 

Requirements:

  • - Experience creating and delivering content for 3-10 year old children's market.
  • - Experience either writing and / or editing stories for the children's space.
  • - Demonstrated ability to work with creative, product, and technical teams to efficiently deliver projects on-time and on-budget.
  • - Effective manager.
  • - Excellent analytical, facilitation and organizational skills required.
  • - Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, multi-task, and meet deadlines required.
  • - Deep understanding of the social networking and early age game design concepts a big plus.

Lead Engineer

Location: We're located in San Francisco, but we're looking for the right person who can be anywhere (ideally within 3 time zones of SF)

Story Something is looking for an experienced, hands-on Lead Engineer with experience in Ruby, Rails and Javascript who "gets" children's content and enjoys working in a small, fast-growing team. You will be coming in early and responsible for managing technology including development and infrastructure. Like everyone else on our team, you should be a great generalist, eager to learn new things and use the best tools for the job. We follow agile development methods and release early and often. Our schedule lives in Pivotal Tracker and is as accurate as possible.

Responsibilities:

Requirements: 

  • - Deep and thorough knowledge of Ruby on Rails
  • - Expert in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • - Experience using AJAX and Javascript libraries / frameworks judiciously for interaction design for all devices
  • - Experience building large, scalable web applications
  • - Experience working with databases (MySQL preferred)
  • - Experience designing software and APIs using test-driven development
  • - Excellent verbal and written skills – effective at helping translate business requirements into stories.
  • - Ability to work actively in collaboration with local and remote development team members

 

Considerations:

  • - Experience with JQuery or other Javascript libraries and testing frameworks
  • - Experience with SASS, CSS frameworks and object-oriented CSS
  • - Professional experience with git or another version control system
  • - Practical experience with and a passion for Agile development methodologies
  • - Native and browser-based device application development skills - especially the iPhone and iPad
